Baby D Makes Three

fortune cookie predictions

friday september 14th, J and I had chinese for dinner. usually I get the really stupid fortune cookies that say things like “your good personality will be rewarded sooner or later” and I feel all cheated because I love fortune cookies even though I rarely get a good one. well friday’s was different. I cracked open my cookie and found: “prepare yourself for a change of events in your personal life.” ok. that one I can dig. because we are. then J opens his and finds: “The current year will bring you much happiness.” hmmm. now we are getting more into fortune territory. are you telling me, mighty fortune cookie, that this baby will for sure be born in 2012? I think you are. so I post this photo on facebook. because if there is no social media proof, it did not happen.

and my father-in-law comments and says: “we had chinese today too…and my fortune said ‘remember 3 months from this date…good things are in store for you!’ ”

so apparently, according to fortune cookie predictions, little girl will be born on December 14th. anyone want to start a pool? she will be full term by that point and hopefully healthy, so I wouldn’t have any problems getting her a little early.

the big reveal

finally. I’m going to write down how we announced our pregnancy to some of our favorite people. ๐Ÿ™‚

telling our family and friends we are expecting was so much fun. I knew I wanted us to do something creative, but I wasn’t sure what, so I turned to our trusty friend, google, and came up with a plan.

for my mom, and J’s mom and dad, we decided to do a present. we wrapped a picture frame that said “grandkids” for my mom. when she opened it, she seemed pretty suprised (she threw the frame on the couch to come give me a hug). for J’s mom, we wrapped a bib that said “I love Grandma” and because she is alrady a grandma, we included a picture of the pregnancy test. when she opened the bib, she said “you’re expecting aren’t you?” excitement all around.

there were some people we weren’t able to see in person, so we told over the phone, or on skype if available.

for everyone else, we decided to take pictures. the plan was that I would ask to take a picture and tell everyone to “say cheese” then take a picture. then I would say, “oh we need another shot, this time say, ‘Kaitlin’s Pregnant!'” and start snapping away with the camera to make sure I got a good surprised shot. the first couple of people we got, I didn’t have my nice new cannon, so they were taken with my cell phone.

J’s sister and brother-in law, J & K:

J & K, “say cheese”

J & K, say, “Kaitlin’s Pregnant!”

My dad and brother, T & D:

T & D before

T & D after

J’s gramma:

only an after for gramma

friends at my birthday party:

you are?!

this was so fun, especially now that I have photos of everyone’s reaction to show our little one someday just how much he/she was loved from the start.

on father’s day, I posted our happy newsย on facebook wishing hubby a happy father’s day and included an ultrasound photo.

we couldn’t be happier with the support and love we have received from everyone on our happy news.

birthday weekend

it was so hard coming back to work yesterday after the most fabulous birthday weekend I remember having in a LONG time. friday night, hubs and I went out with most of our friends. we enjoyed tritip sandwiches and the company. and we told everyone we are expecting. the reactions of all of our friends was so wonderful (yes, I am still planning on doing an entire reveal post to show you pictures and tell you the story of how we told everyone – but it’s going to be a LONG one so I’m procrastinating :P).

saturday morning was my actual birthday. hubs went to mens breakfast (church group that meets 2 saturdays a month at 7 am) while I slept in. when I woke, he was home and brought me a bouqet of roses :). love him! after opening my presents from my mom and friends (you all spoiled me too much!), we went to breakfast an panera (one of my favorites) but they were out of the cheese souffle that I was really craving ๐Ÿ˜ฆ so I had to settle for one of their delicious bagels ๐Ÿ˜›

we went into a couple of stores, and then went home and watched tv for most of the afternoon (I can’t tell you how much I am savoring every moment I have snuggling with hubs on the couch and thinking in 6 short months, this will be so different). we went to grab a late lunch/early dinner at noodles & company (another one of my favorites) and then went home to get ready to go see Wicked.

Wicked was AMAZING. so much better than I had even anticpated. I loved it and I am so glad to have finally been to a play with my husband.

on sunday morning, I woke to get ready for church and made a special post on facebook which said “Happy Father’s Day, hubs! We love you!” and included one of the ultrasound photos. the response we have received from all of our extended family and friends has been overwhelming. we are so excited to share this journey with so many people who already love little one.

after church, we went to hubs’ parents house and spent the afternoon swimming and eating with his parents, sister, brother-in-law, and our adorable nephew, Gman. It was Gman’s first time in the pool, which was so much fun. and my mother-in-law got me a cake for my birthday ๐Ÿ™‚

we had togos for dinner and not even an hour later I was STARVING again. like felt like I had not had dinner starving. so I told hubs I wanted pinkberry and off we went.

I am so thankful for all of the family and friends who made my birthday weekend so special, especially the wonderful man I married. hubs – I am so thankful for you, I love every day we spend together, and I am so excited for this adventure we are on. you are going to be an amazing father. I love you. Happy Father’s Day.
