dear Cora,

Happy 7 months baby! you are closer to a year than you are to my tiny newborn I brought home from the hospital now.

you haven’t slept well this month, but the first week of the month was AWFUL. you would wake up either in the middle of the night or the very early morning and you would scream and cry unless I was holding you. we spent a lot of time trying to sleep on the couch :P. I blame your cold, followed shortly after by your 6 month vaccinations.

you learned how to pick up your pacifier and put it in your own mouth! it is pretty awesome. I’m hoping soon you will be able to find it yourself in your crib in the middle of the night.

dr. Arif prescribed steroid cream for your cradle cap at your 6 month check up and it cleared it right up. no more scratching! it is pretty amazing. I love not waking up to new bloody spots on your head from you scratching yourself so hard. I’m sure you love it too.

you went swimming for the first time on your first 4th of July! you loved being in the water, and you even kicked and moved your arms like you were actually swimming when we held you on your belly. you are definitely our water baby. Grandpa Page and Jen came to stay with us for the 4th of July. you loved having them around, and the extra attention, but were cranky by the end of the visit; probably a mixture of teething, the sinus infection we didn’t know about yet, and not napping well. you spent the 4th of July with both Grandpas, Grammy, Uncle Kyle, Aunt Jess, cousin Gavin, Nate and Lily, and new friends. you tried watermelon for the first time. I cannot even describe how excited you were about it. I gave you a triangle and you just went to town on it, and tried to bite me a couple of times when I would try to pick the seeds out before you got to your next bite. you were covered in watermelon, and screamed when you finished your piece because you wanted more, but I wasn’t sure what it would do to your tummy, so I only let you have the one.

you can sit up unassisted for pretty much as long as you want now. you do still fall over from time to time, though. and you’ve learned that if I say “are you ok?” and you cry, I will pick you up. it’s pretty funny to see you scam me. even if I use a very upbeat tone to ask, you will still go from fine to crying until I pick you up.

you have loved to cuddle and sit with mommy and daddy on the couch this month. if we are sitting on the couch and you are playing, you will fuss until we pick you up and bring you to the couch to sit between us, and will resume your playing from there. I love the extra cuddles!

you are SO close to crawling. you get up on your hands and knees and rock back and forth. you just haven’t quite grasped the concept of moving forward. you are actually pretty good at getting around backwards, you scoot yourself, and roll to where you want to go.

you started blowing raspberries. the first time you did it, it was in response to your daddy telling you he loves you. it made me laugh so hard. and now you do it a lot, especially when you are happy.

speaking of happy. you usually are. especially when I get you out of your crib when you wake up in the morning, or when I pick you up from daycare. I will pull you in tight for a hug and you will squeal with delight and then bounce in my arms like you are jumping for joy. oh how I love these moments.

the cough you got with your cold and pink eye on the day you turned 6 months lasted and lasted. and then got worse. so we took you back to dr. Arif and he diagnosed you with a sinus infection :(. my poor baby girl. you had ten days of antibiotics to clear it up, and they worked great, and you actually didn’t mind them, they must taste good :P.

I feel like you have been perpetually teething for months now, and yet, there are still no teeth to show for it. you still love chomping on Sophie or Mushroom.

Mimi came and went to church with us, so you got to stay in the sanctuary instead of going to the nursery to play with her. you loved the songs, and that Mimi held you and played with you the whole time. She sewed a shopping cart/high chair cover for you and I was so hoping we could use it for the first time while she was here, but you fell asleep in the car and slept the entire time we were at lunch!

you tried so many new foods this month. dr. Arif told us you were ready for the foods with protein and any stage 2 foods, and that we could give you a new food as often as every day, so we just went to town. you love food, and we want to expose you to as much as possible. this month you tried: pears, peaches, prunes, apple juice, watermelon, avocado, macaroni & cheese with veggies, chicken and apples, turkey with sweet potatoes & whole grains, chicken noodle, chicken & rice, and beef & vegetables. you even had peas again, and didn’t have any reaction to them, just gobbled them up like you do all other food. we had problems with avocado and the purees that have rice in them. they upset your tummy so we’ve cut those out.

I started giving you puffs last week, hoping they would keep you occupied at restaurants, and when we are eating dinner, and also hoping they will help you learn to feed yourself. you will play with them, but you don’t even try to put them in your mouth. you put EVERYTHING in your mouth, especially things I don’t want you to, but when I give you food, you push it around your high chair tray, pick it up and wave it around, and throw it on the ground, but it doesn’t go anywhere near your mouth. you silly girl. I know you know it’s food though. because if I’m holding one you will open your mouth for me to feed it to you.

your school had a talent show this month. all parents were invited. your daddy and I were pretty excited to see what “talent” your class was going to show off. your teachers brought you all out and you “sang” twinkle, twinkle, little star. which basically meant you all sat there looking extra adorable while your teachers and all the parents sang the song to you. oh so sweet.

you are still wearing size 2 diapers, and sizes 0-3 and 3-6 month clothing.

favorites

Cora – stuffed animals, especially blue (who we bought you for being such a trooper through your shots and sickness), watermelon, sitting, babbling.

hot mess

this weekend was a total hot mess at our house.

I ate something bad on friday. so I had stomach flu-like symptoms for most of the evening and into saturday morning.

saturday morning came around, and Cora had a runny nose, and was very congested. it was also 106 degrees by the afternoon (I meant hot mess literally). since Cora didn’t seem overly cranky, we chalked the runny nose up to the change in weather, and went to a second birthday party where Cora enjoyed splashing in the kiddie pool, and J and I melted (did I mention 106 degrees?). over the course of the afternoon, as I used more and more boogie wipes, I started to wonder if this was a cold and not weather related. but she continued to power through it with minimal crankiness.

sunday morning came with more congestion, and a little more whining, but nothing too awful. we went to church as I was scheduled to volunteer in the nursery, and Cora had fun with the few toys I handed her.

sunday afternoon is when the real hot mess hit. this is definitely her first cold. she was congested, runny-nosed, cranky, and having a harder time eating. it was also pretty obvious the teething fairy had visited at the same time. she was inconsolable. she hates having her nose wiped or suctioned, and her poor teeth are hurting her so badly. towards the evening, I started to feel like I was coming down with a cold too. my throat started hurting, and my nose started running. perfect.

it was so hard to listen to my precious, teeny, baby girl sniffle and cough on the baby monitor. and even worse to hear the whimpers throughout the night that to me say, I don’t feel good. I was up way more often than normal, retrieving her pacifier, or just going in to put my hand to her forehead to check for a fever, or to kiss her and hope that my love could magically take the sickness away.

we had a rough night to say the least, and when this morning came, Cora had a small cough and was still congested. my head feels like it’s going to explode, my throat is sore, and my nose is a faucet. J stayed home with Cora as I went to work. I felt so guilty leaving her since this is her first sickness, but I was scheduled to observe an administrative hearing this morning, and I felt I needed to do that as a refresher for my job. I’m so thankful J has a flexible job too, and can stay home with her when I’m not able to.

now I’m counting the hours until I can go home and cuddle my baby, who will hopefully be feeling better.

What I miss: sleep and sushi, but not for much longer – well, the sushi that is. I’m sure I will be missing sleep for some time to come.

Movement: she is still moving all around in there. mostly pressing her booty or her feet up into my ribs and making my belly go lopsided.

Doctor’s appointment: went well – had my first internal check and was not dilated or effaced at all yet (bummer), but dr. L is very pleased with what he is seeing on the ultrasound. next appointment is this coming thursday.

and for fun, here is the bump at 9, 19, 29, and 39 weeks – wow 😛

How far along: 36 weeks

Baby’s size: large cantaloupe (19 to 22 inches, 6 pounds)

Stretch marks? yeah same clusters, but they seem to be less angry-looking this week

Sleep: has not been very restful or comfortable

Best moment this week: so much good stuff happened this week. my work threw us a lovely baby shower, I finished my last week of work, and we had our childbirth class which was very informative.

Food cravings: pretty much sweets of all kinds

Food aversions: cucumbers are not my favorite thing anymore, which is weird, I usually love them in salads

Gender: ribbons and bows

Symptoms: so tired, my back aches pretty much all the time, heartburn is wicked, and I’m pretty sure little girl is right on my bladder because I feel like I spend more time in restrooms than out of them.

Belly Button in or out? still technically in, although very flat

Wedding rings on or off? off

Happy or Moody most of the time: pretty happy

Looking forward to: some rest this week, re-packing the hospital bags (the childbirth class gave me some different ideas), and getting the house more in order

What I miss: sushi. my lovely coworkers gave J and I a satori gift card at our baby shower – they thought we could use something for us and not just for little girl. I am so excited.

Movement: yep. she’s been getting the hiccups way more frequently and she likes to throw private dance parties

Doctor’s appointment: on tuesday

Total weight gain: 31.5 pounds

Maternity clothes: still wearing pre-pregnancy pants/skirts with maternity tops

Stretch marks? yes, they seem to be getting larger. that’s a bummer.

Sleep: awful. I was awake for at least an hour at 3:30 this morning. for no reason. boo.

Doctor’s appointment: went really well, although dr. L put through a wrench into our plans for how much longer I am going to work. I was planning on working the first two weeks of december and then taking off, but, dr. L has recommended that I don’t work in december at all. he thinks spending more time laying down in the last month can help prevent preeclampsia. so this coming friday will be my last day at work.

running out of womb

we are running out of room in the womb over here. baby girl has been making it known for the past 48 hours just how uncomfortable she is in there. mostly by making it uncomfortable for the mama 😛 she presses her little feet or her little bottom up and out causing my belly to move into weird contorted angles and she will shove herself so far up into my rib cage that it’s hard to breathe. but it’s always up. I keep wanting to tell her down is the direction she needs to go to be able to get out, but it’s too soon for that, so I just laugh at the weird shapes my belly takes on, try to comfort her a little with some belly rubbing, and tell her that I’m sorry she is so uncomfortable but that she will have to remain put for at least another 3 more weeks, at least until full term. chances are she will be in there for at least another 6 as most first time moms don’t deliver before their due date. so hopefully I keep expanding, making more room for my stretcher.

Bump Update: 34 Weeks

this smile says “this is as good as it gets when I don’t feel good” 😛

How far along? 34 weeks

Baby’s size: pineapple (19 to 22 inches, 4.9 pounds)

Total weight gain: 30 pounds

Maternity clothes: on top yes, bottoms are still pre-pregnancy with the beband.

Stretch marks? same ones that appeared a few weeks ago

Sleep: I actually slept a LOT this week being sick. I was surprised, but relieved.

Best moment this week: we had some photos taken by our wedding photographer, Allison Lal. I can’t wait to see the results.

Food cravings: chocolate covered peppermint jo-jo’s from trader joes. I love/hate this time of year and all the yummy holiday goodies that come out.

Food aversions: nothing

Gender: girlie girl

Symptoms: heartburn, backache, fatigue. I was sick this week so that was no fun.

Belly Button in or out? still technically in. even the top part that was completely flat last week seems like it is more in 😛

Wedding rings on or off? off for safety, but I did wear them at our photo shoot and they were fine.

Happy or Moody most of the time: being sick has left me pretty moody this week

Looking forward to: feeling all the way better, Thanksgiving, spending time with family.

What I’m procrastinating on: packing the hospital bag (not sure why, I’m just totally dragging my feet on this one)

What I miss: being able to pick things off the floor

Movement: yep, little one definitely likes to move-it, move-it

Doctor’s appointment: on tuesday. looking forward to it.

Bump Update: 33 Weeks

How far along? 33 weeks

Baby’s size: honeydew (19 inches, 4.5 pounds)

Total weight gain: 28 pounds

Maternity clothes: tops, yes; I’m still rocking my pre-pregnancy pants and skirts with the beband. and my yoga pants for lounging around the house

Stretch marks? still the two that appeared a few weeks ago. of course they are upfront and center on my belly, so that’s annoying.

Sleep: not comfortable

Best moment this week: seeing little one on the ultrasound, and the shopping we did this weekend to finish preparing ourselves for her arrival. I think we are finally ready. well, our house is ready at least 😛

Food cravings: frozen yogurt and soft serve ice cream

Food aversions: nothing

Gender: precious baby girl

Symptoms: my hips hurt so bad, back ache, fatigue, heartburn was a huge one this week, and bending down to pick things up from the floor has become very difficult this week.

Belly Button in or out? the top is completely flat, and the bottom half is still in

Wedding rings on or off? off

Happy or Moody most of the time: happy happy happy

Looking forward to: sewing the crib skirt this week, and organizing some of the remaining things that need to be organized

What I miss: sleeping comfortably

Movement: she sure is feisty. I’m pretty sure she took her heel and jammed it into my upper belly and then dragged it down to my belly button. it hurt. and last night, J was pressing on her and she kicked me so hard in the rib cage in response.

Doctor’s appointment: this week’s appointment was a good one. everything looks perfect and normal.
