Baby D Makes Three

month 4

dear Cora,

the week you turned three months old, you started rolling over at every tummy time, usually multiple times. then you stopped. for most of the month, you only rolled over every once in a while. this past week, you did it more often. I guess you just have to be in the mood. 😛

you are so close to laughing now. although it is more like a high-pitched squeal, it is definitely a happy sound and we love hearing it.

speaking of squealing, you have started squealing/screaming sometimes instead of talking when you are really excited. you are a loud girl! but it is fun.

you discovered your legs this month. you love pulling them back towards you, and holding on to them, especially during diaper changes. which helps at first, but when we are trying to put the new diaper on, not so much 😛

you arch your back a lot now, sometimes in an attempt to not be buckled into either your car seat or your swing. sorry love, you don’t win that battle.

the second and third week of this month, you ate a ton! it seemed like you always wanted to eat. you went from eating every 3 to 4 hours to every 2. you are now back to every 3 hours. I bet you had a major growth spurt 🙂

you went on your first vacation and had your first long car ride this month. we went to San Diego to visit your Grandpa, Jen, and Uncle Drew. You met two great grandmothers (your daddy’s Granna lives in San Diego, and my Grammy flew from Seattle to spend some time with us at Grandpa’s house).

we bought you a ball that you just love to play with! you can put your hands through it and hold it yourself (I’m pretty sure that is why you love it so much). we also introduced Phoebe, who is your lovey/security blanket. Phoebe has a giraffe head attached to the blanket. it is so soft, and is pink and white. you love her! one nap time you were particularly fussy, so I handed her to you, and you cuddled her to your cheek and went right to sleep. it was so sweet! speaking of handing you things during nap time, we started the process of weaning you off swaddling the last week of this month. we now swaddle you with one arm out. it has been an adjustment for all of us but it is getting so hot, it is better for us to get you out of blankets.

you went to the nursery at church for the first time this month. you did great! mommy didn’t 😛 I was worried about you the whole time. but it is good practice for me to leave you with nursery workers for when I go back to work.

the last two days, you have been so talkative. it is adorable to hear all of your coos, ewws, and awws.

you had a doctor’s appointment 3 days after turning 4 months old. you weigh 12 pounds .05 ounces, you are 23 1/2 inches long, and your head circumference is 16.5 inches.  that puts you in the 12th percentile for length, 9th for weight, and 66th for head circumference. you are our petite little girl. your Mimi bought you a pair of sandals that were size 0-3 months and your foot is about half of the size of the shoe. it cracks me up how tiny your feet are.

you are still wearing size 1 diapers and 0-3 month clothes. we started dressing you in 3-6 month clothes also, so that we get more wear out of them, and as the month went on, they started to fit you a little better (but they are still very roomy :P).

you aren’t sleeping great this month. it seems we’ve had a little bit of regression, and it’s definitely taking its toll on me. but I know this is just a phase, and sooner or later you will sleep well again.

Cora – Phoebe (angel dear pink giraffe), jumperoo (you aren’t entirely tall enough for this, so we prop a pillow under your feet), Oball, pacifiers

Me – crystal light lemonade, naps, snugli infant carrier (on loan from Aunt Jessi)

Road trip (Take 2)

So after the suck storm that was our drive to San Diego, J and I determined a change of strategy was in order for our return trip. After a fun day at grandpa’s house, we packed up the car, and at bedtime we packed up Cora and said our goodbyes.

We left a little before 8 pm on Friday hoping Cora would sleep since we were leaving at bedtime. We were prepared to stop halfway and spend the rest of the night somewhere if she totally wigged out like the drive south, but we seemed to have done things right by driving through the night instead of the afternoon.

We made one 10 minute stop for gas and restrooms and Cora slept the whole way. She fussed once around 12:15, I gave her pacifier back, and she immediately fell back to sleep. We pulled into our garage at 2:37 am. As soon as the car stopped, Cora started melting down so we quickly changed her diaper, put her in pajamas, fed her, and got her into bed. She fell right back to sleep.

I was in bed at 3:30 and then up for another nursing session at 6:30. Cora woke up for the day at 8 and so did J so I got to sleep until a little after 9, when Cora was hungry again.

We spent the day exhausted and barely functioning, but it was totally worth it. A sleeping baby is a much nicer travel companion than a screaming one.

Next time, we fly 😛

Bump Update: 10 Weeks

How far along? 10 weeks

Baby’s size: Prune

Total Weight gain: well, I’m at my dad’s on vacation, so I don’t know. I’ll update next week on that

Maternity clothes? no, but I tried on a pair of pants at Motherhood Maternity the other day, and they were darn comfy. I was seriously considering purchasing them, but it’s not quite time yet 😛

Stretch marks? nope 😛

Sleep: has not been great. the pregnancy dreams have hit me full force, which are annoying, plus my back is KILLING me now when I sleep. so I’m pretty uncomfortable all around.

Best moment this week: I’ve been on vacation for most of the last week, it was all pretty amazing. I really have loved the time we’ve spent at the beach. so relaxing.

Food cravings: nothing really stood out this week. but my sweet tooth has been making a re-appearance. can’t decide if I’m relieved or disappointed.

Food aversions: chicken. ewww.

Gender: don’t know. about half way to being able to find out though 🙂

Symptoms: dreams, exhausted, hungry all the time. had some moments of nausea, but overall, the morning sickness was much better this week.

Belly Button in or out? in

Wedding rings on or off? on

Happy or Moody most of the time: still so happy, but I have to admit, the crankiness is kicking in a little more – probably aggravated by exhaustion and my aching back 😛

Looking forward to: the ultrasound is on Monday, that is only 5 days away!

What I miss: sleeping well, although, everything will be worth it in 6 and a half months. 😀

Bump Update: 9 Weeks

how far along? 9 weeks

baby’s size: green olive (it’s hard to belive that in roughly 30 weeks it will be a watermelon :P)

total weight gain: -2.5 (lost another .5 this week – morning sickness is kicking my butt)

maternity clothes? nope, but my beband from target is getting used with certain pants

stretch marks? no!

sleep: ok, not great, but not awful either

Best moment this week: the annual eclipse was pretty cool

Food Cravings: if it’s fried or greasy, I want to eat it (but I’ve been good – I had 2 slices of pizza on friday night, and have not indulged in french fries :P)

Food aversions: most things are an aversion. eating is a huge hassle, especially since my gag reflex has decided to become uber sensitive.

Gender: had a boy dream

Symptoms: as mentioned, morning sickness is making my life miserable, also had another migraine this week, still extremely exhausted and want to sleep all the time (or at least be laying down).

Belly Button in or out? in (hubs has started asking when I will remove my piercing 🙂 )

Wedding rings on or off? on

Happy or Moody most of the time: happy until I get overly tired, then I turn into a toddler who needs a nap 😛

Looking forward to: We leave for vacation to see my dad in TWO days!

What I miss: deli sandwiches

vacation planning

my father moved to southern california this week from florida. this is more exciting than I can even describe since hubs and i live in northern california. this now means that to see dad, it will take a 2 hour plane ride or an 8 hour drive, instead of an 8 hour flight complete with jet lag, and HUGE expense. I am thrilled. his birthday is at the end of this month, memorial day, actually, so hubs and I have been planning our first trip to see him for his birthday. we are taking hubs’ truck. loaded in the truck on the drive down will be all of the bedroom furniture we were given by my mother when we first moved in together. the furniture had been purchased for my teenage brother when he still lived with mom. now that we are married, and expecting, we decided to buy our own furniture, and pick out what we wanted. since little brother lives in southern california too (a mere 45 minutes from dad’s new pad), we will be driving the furniture to him.

the conversation regarding this trip has mainly centered around when we should leave, how long we should stay, and how the drive is going to be (oh, also when and how to tell dad I’m in the family way). I expressed concern for leaving in the wee hours of the morning, because I would be too tired to stay awake and talk with hubs as he drove. hubs’ response? “Who are you trying to kid, the baby? everyone knows you are going to sleep the second we hit the freeway.” which is true. I don’t do well in car rides. I get motion sickness (which I have a feeling will be amplified by morning sickness), I get really tired staring intently at the horizon, and bored. those three things together equal instant sleep for me. but that doesn’t mean I don’t feel guilty about it. I so wish I was the type of woman who could stay awake and chat with hubs as he drove to keep him company. hopefully this trip, we can find him an interesting book on tape to listen to or something, since with the added 1st trimester exhaustion, he’s right, I don’t stand a chance, and I’m probably convincing no one, not even baby.
